A research project about drama education
This website provides a snapshot of a drama education research project being undertaken by Dr Christina Gray and Robin Pascoe.
It began over lunch at Mid Century Cafe in 2024 when we asked ourselves: Drama teachers and students often say that taking part in drama is transforming. We wanted to answer three questions:
Who is transformed?
What is Transformed?
How does transformation in drama take place?
Three phases in the Research
Pick the full path or jump into the phase that you want to find out about..
Phase 1
Drama teacher identity and experiences
We build a shared picture of the field of drama education.
We ask drama teachers and drama teacher education students about their experiences of drama teaching and learning.
The focus was on the first two questions: Who and What is transformed through drama
We shared this research at conferences.
We wrote and published our research.
Phase 2
Theorising Drama as Transformational learning
We researched and wrote our ideas about how drama transforms.
We invited colleagues to respond to stories of drama as transformation through the lens of their own experiences.
This is published by Routledge
Phase 3
Drama Spaces
In talking with people in Phases 1 and 2, we found they talked about how the space of drama shaped their learning.
Drama as spaces of becoming is the theme of this phase of the research.
We invite you to share your stories of how drama is a space of becoming, of transformational learning.
